Mike Gorman Music & Apple Wood Records. Fall 2009
WordPress, CSS, PHP, Photoshop

Mike was a musician with a very personalized style of music and wanted a site that complimented the music. Mike hired an artist to sketch a series of images and I scanned and assembled the components to compliment the site’s layout. Despite the heavy emphasis on hand drawn art, text was added strategically to enhance searchability without detracting from the overall hand-drawn vision.

American Social History Project. Fall 2009
WordPress, CSS, Javascript, PHP, MySQL, Photoshop

ASHP New website, 9-2009

The American Social History Project website was a study in how to make use of an existing content management system, in this case WordPress, and make it looks as little like a WordPress website as possible. I implemented the designer’s layout and customized it to fit within the constraints of WordPress. Additionally, I modified several add-ons and created unique add-ons to handle the clients custom specifications.

Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Timeline. Spring 2009
Illustrator

Carbon Emissions Timeline
The chart was designed to assist our client in effectively conveying the effects that can be achieved by an incremental approach to reducing a neighborhood’s carbon footprint. Each initative is quantified and illustrated to show exactly how much carbon will be reduced on an annual basis and contextually, how each initative relates to each other in a long term approach.

Now and Then: An American History Project Blog.  Winter 2008-09
CSS, WordPress

Now and Then: An American History Project Blog

Now and Then was created to enhance the visibility and online credibility of the client who lacked a strong online presence. WordPress was chosen for its ease of use and the CSS was customized to meet the needs of the client; in addition training and education was provided.

Potential Park Access Map. Fall 2008
Illustrator

Bronx Park Access Map

The above map was used to illustrate locations that a neighborhood community group could focus their efforts on to improve access to the New York City Greenway plan. The Greenway is shown in context with the neighborhood at large. This map was one in a series of maps for our client.

Picturing US History. Summer 2008
PHP, MySQL, Flash, HTML, CSS, WordPress, PHPBB

Picturing US History

Picturing US History was built to be a resource for teachers who use visual aids in their learning. Worpress and PHPBB are used to foster interactivity between a  featured scholars and site users. The backend is a custom CMS for adding essays with heavy visual content.

Buffalo State Bulletin. Summer 2007
PHP, MySQL, XML, Ingeniux CMS

PHP, MySQL, XML

The Buffalo State Bulletin was built with for a client who lacked experience publishing a biweekly magazine electronically.  I wrote a completely custom PHP and MySQL database driven backend. The PHP outputs valid XML which is converted via the Ingeniux CMS and XSLT to create the front end.

Wildlife Succession Diagram. Spring 2006
Illustrator, Photoshop

Timeline protraying inter-relation of wilfdlife groups in Urban Succession

The wildlife succession diagram was done for a conceptual project exploring the possibilities for creating an “Urban Ecosystem” in vacant stretches of land along side highways. The succession illustrates in theory how certain plants and animals can attract further animals to recreate a ecosystem. This work was part of a project that was recognized for Outstanding Undergraduate Research at the University of Buffalo in April 2006.

Using Department of Transportation traffic counts, this chart visually displays the traffic intensity for stretches of I-290 and I-90 to make a case for the visibility of public art installations
